“I SHALL” is typical Zodiac Killer lingo, as evident in later Zodiac Killer communications. However, this could be coincidental.
Cutting off and exposing female parts shows and confirms a clear sexual element in the killer’s motivation. |

It also shows his wish to (sexually) expose and humiliate his victims, being in full control of the (dead) victim, and possibly also to show to everybody something unachievable to him through other means than violence and killing.
It is also an indication of the killer taking revenge on females for(sexual) rejection experienced before. The Killer’s incapability having a normal relationship with a female is clearly evident.
The killer is probably a sexual virgin and/or a heterosexual relationship virgin at the time of the crime. He is possibly a shy loner in the peripheral area of his peer group and victim target group. In other words, the killer is unsuccessful in having normal (sexual) relationships with attractive females of normal age range. Therefore, we believe that the killer was not in Cheri Jo Bates “league”, not in her direct circle of friends, and that he would not have qualified being considered by her as a possible boyfriend or husband. Apparently, she would not even have talked with him.
SO DON'T MAKE IT TO EASY FOR ME. KEEP YOUR SISTERS, DAUGHTERS, AND WIVES OFF THE STREETS AND ALLEYS.
The intentional or unintentional misspelling of the word “TO” instead of “TOO” is present in Zodiac Killer letters and ciphers. Also this could be just another coincidence.
With “SO DON'T MAKE IT TO EASY FOR ME”, the Killer invites preventive action, he taunts, provokes and challenges. The killer puts out a threat against females in particular and the community or society in the overall. Again the killer confirms targeting females. The killer wants to exercise power, to create fear, to influence behavior through fear. The killer wants to be feared. The killer may enjoy being feared, feels powerful when being feared.
MISS BATES WAS STUPID. SHE WENT TO THE SLAUGHTER LIKE A LAMB.
The killer calls Cheri Jo Bates “MISS BATES”, while calling her “STUPID” at the same time. This contradictive way of expression suggests possible sarcasm of the killer calling his victim “MISS BATES”, or sarcastic quoting of others that spoke of her as “MISS BATES”, before and/or after the murder. Possibly, newspaper articles talks about the victim as “Miss Bates”, whom the killer puts her in the position of “A LAMB” and describes the killing as “THE SLAUGHTER”. By depriving his victim of her intelligence calling her stupid and comparing her to a lamb he puts her into the position of an inferior, animal-like, stupid victim going to her “SLAUGHTER”, while putting himself in the elevated, superior, powerful, intelligent, controlling, judging and executing position of “the slaughterer”.
