The cracked 408-Character Cipher Z 408 attached to the July 31, 1969 Letters revealed the following text:
I LIKE KILLING PEOPLE BECAUSE IT IS SO MUCH FUN IT IS MORE FUN THAN KILLING WILD GAME IN THE FORREST BECAUSE MAN IS THE MOST DANGEROUS ANIMAL OF ALL TO KILL SOMETHING GIVES ME THE MOST THRILLING EXPERENCE IT IS EVEN BETTER THAN GETTING YOUR ROCKS OFF WITH A GIRL THE BEST PART OF IT IS THAT WHEN I DIE I WILL BE REBORN IN PARADICE AND ALL THE I HAVE KILLED WILL BECOME MY SLAVES I WILL NOT GIVE YOU MY NAME BECAUSE YOU WILL TRY TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP MY COLLECTING OF SLAVES FOR MY AFTERLIFE EBEORIETEMETHHPITI
In the following text, we will analyze point the Zodiac Killer's statement point-by-point:
I LIKE KILLING PEOPLE BECAUSE IT IS SO MUCH FUN
With this sentence, the Zodiac Killer informs that he takes great pleasure in killing people. Most probably, it gives him a feeling of power, the feeling of being the master of life and death, an experience of superiority and excitement that he does not have in his normal life.
IT IS MORE FUN THAN KILLING WILD GAME IN THE FORREST
Apparently, the Zodiac Killer enjoyed hunting animals in the forest before, but to him it doesn’t compare to the excitement that hunting of human beings gives him. It is possible that the Zodiac Killer had a family history of hunting animals for food or sports.
BECAUSE MAN IS THE MOST DANGEROUS ANIMAL OF ALL
It has been widely assumed that this part sentence of the Zodiac Killer is a reference to Richard Connell’s 1924 short story “The Hounds of Zaroff” and/or the following 1932 movie “The Most Dangerous Game, a hunter-hunted story featuring as main character Rainsford, a big-game hunter from New York, who is hunted on an isolated island by megalomaniac big-game hunter Count Zaroff, an insane Russian aristocrat who is bored with shooting animals.
